COVID-19 (Corona virus) Information

You maybe wondering about your water supply and if or can the virus be transmitted or even found in the drinking water? Short answer is most likely NO!  And you can rest assure that Fosterburg Water District works very diligently in maintaining the required chlorine residual as required by the Federal and State EPA.

Since we are a purchase supply, our providor Illinois American Water, is required to have a virus removal of a Log4, that is 99.99% removal rate. The chances that the virus could survive through the treament process and the likeihood of the virus to remain active after chloination from our supplier is very low.  Then as a secondary measure, Fosterburg Water District rechlorinates at both of its intake connections, including our booster station.  Therefore, the likelihood of the virus remaining active is highly unlikely.

As noted in the World Health Organization documentation "While persistence in drinking-water is possible, there is no current evidence from surrogate human coronaviruses that they are present in surface or groundwater sources or transmitted through contaminated drinking-water." and further stated in the documentation "The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies, and based on current evidence, the risk to water supplies is low"
